The American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) has overseen the quality of veterinary education since the association was founded about 150 years ago. Today the AVMA Council on Education, a council of veterinarians who volunteer their time, oversees the quality of veterinary education in this country, Canada and veterinary schools around the world. This informative video explains the history of veterinary education and the COE and how the AVMA’s accreditation program works to improve the quality of veterinary schools and veterinary care in this country and others.

The first-annual National Agricultural Proficiency Award in Veterinary Medicine, sponsored by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) was presented on October 23, 2009 at the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. This AVMA award is presented to promising young students who aspire to be large animal veterinarians. Three finalists won $500, and the winner received $1,000.
